I just back from seeing Jarhead. I also read the book month’s ago. I’m not a huge fan of the book, it came across a a lot of whining and ego mania. I mean, if you’re such a bad ass in all walks of life wtf you got to whine about right? You’re a self proclaimed God, deal with it. =o)~ Ack! I did finish it though, so it wasn’t the worse book out there. There was something about the book that made me want to keep reading it. I was in the ARMY during Desert Storm so that had a lot to do with it I think.
The movie…I’m still a bit shocked at how MUCH wasn’t in the movie. How convieniently the storyline avoids the Marines, to include Anthony, buying whores and screwing like cooch was going to fall from the face of the earth. Avoided that all together but touched greatly on what a bunch of cheating, lying, slut’s military girlfriends and wives are. It might not have been so bad if there wasn’t so many scenes talking about that particular issue. Â
The ending was dissappointing too. I thought the bar scene after the funeral was something that would have been in the movie. Lot’s missing. Creative liberties….so many movies from books I think would be great if they were MORE like the book. Then again, considering the book I’m talking about, if the movie was just like the book it would have been a few hours longer and may have depressed the hell out of the masses.
The movie was a good one though all in all. I was actually surprised I liked it. Probably because it wasn’t so much like the book. The hard part about reading Anthony’s book was that it was SO depressing. I think it was a hard read for me because it would bring me down then up for just a moment then slam me down again.
I was watching the movie and in one part they were talking about signing your rights away to think for yourself when you Signed the Contract to be a Marine. Something I read that I just loved was USMC stands for U Signed the Motherfucking Contract! I so love that! It applies across the forces, I just love the word fuck I guess lol.
